Dolet 3 for Sibelius Frequently Asked Questions
How do I upgrade to a new maintenance release of Dolet 3 for Sibelius? Where do I find the download?Your order receipt should have an order status link to follow where you can re-download the latest version of the plug-in. You will be prompted for the credit card number that you used for your order. This is to verify that you are the same person who placed the order; your card will not be charged again. Be sure that you don't get to the order page where you have to supply your name, address, and e-mail. This would indeed create a new order and charge your card. The online store only keeps these downloads available for a limited time
after your initial purchase. If you cannot find the download, please e-mail us

How can I export my score when I get an error message saying "Cannot get field Index"?There is a bug in Sibelius 5.1 where all plug-ins, not just Dolet for Sibelius, will fail when trying to access some types of user-defined system symbols. In Dolet 3 for Sibelius, this results in Sibelius displaying the error message "MusicXML/Dolet3::WriteSystemSybolItem:21- Cannot get field Index". Upgrading to Sibelius 5.2 will fix this problem. Why can't I save my MusicXML file into a parent folder on Windows?Unfortunately, there is a bug in Sibelius 4 for Windows that sometimes corrupts the saved file location when you select a parent folder. For instance, say your Sibelius file is in
and you want to save a MusicXML file in:
You will probably find that saving the MusicXML file will not work. Instead, you are likely to see a MyFile.xml folder created for you in the My Scores folder. Either no MusicXML file will be created, or a file will be created with a random name that is unlikely to end in .xml. This problem has been fixed in Sibelius 5.1. If you need to use Sibelius 4, you will need to save the MusicXML file from Sibelius somewhere else, and use Windows to move it to your desired location. We apologize for the inconvenience. How can I get my system breaks to transfer over?In order to transfer the system breaks, make sure that you lock the format of your Sibelius score before doing the MusicXML export. In Sibelius, go to the Layout menu, choose the Format submenu, then choose Lock Format. Click Yes if you are asked if you want to apply this to the entire score. Locking the format gives the Dolet plug-ins the information they need to transfer the system breaks correctly. What is the best way to transfer accidentals into Finale?Unfortunately, Sibelius 4 and 5 do not give plug-ins accurate information about what accidentals are displayed, so the transfer is not going to be entirely accurate. Dolet 4 for Finale will generally give better results than the built-in MusicXML function in Finale. For the best results, though, use the TGTools Accidental function to both unfreeze and check accidentals. This provides the best way to get musically correct accidental notation. You will however need to check for courtesy accidentals and other places where displaying an accidental is a matter of judgment rather than correctness. Why do my accidentals disappear when I re-import into Sibelius? If you are testing the Dolet 3 for Sibelius plug-in by exporting a MusicXML file and re-importing it into Sibelius 4 or 5.0, you will likely find that all your accidentals disappear. This is due to the same problem with accidental export described above, combined with a limitation in the MusicXML import in earlier versions of Sibelius. This problem has been fixed in Sibelius 5.1. In Sibelius 4, you should be able to make the accidentals reappear by running the Simplify Accidentals plug-in, but again the accidental transfer cannot be entirely accurate. What is the best way to transfer beams into Finale?Similarly, Sibelius 4 and 5 do not give plug-ins access to accurate beaming information. We suggest that you run the rebeam feature after importing your MusicXML file. In Finale 2008, first select the entire file. Then go to the Utilities menu, select the Rebeam submenu, and click on Rebeam Music. In Finale 2007 and earlier, first go to the Mass Edit tool and select the entire file. Click on the Mass Edit menu, select the Rebeam submenu, and click on Rebeam Music. This will not give you the beaming that your Sibelius file had, but it should give you the best starting point for further beam editing. Dolet 3 for
