Software

One doesn't fully appreciate the enormous amount of specialized information contained in a typical page of music until you break it down bar by bar and compare an original with a translation created using Dolet 4 for Sibelius. The accuracy and level of detail is stunning. Not just the notes and rests and dynamics, but an array of notation details like cautionary accidentals, cue-sized notes, measure numbers, grace notes, tremolos - as well as the formatting of the page itself. This is an amazing product.

Dolet 4 for Sibelius is a welcome and significant improvement over Dolet 3 for Sibelius. Dolet 4 for Sibelius enhances the range of features which it is possible to export from Sibelius and import successfully into other MusicXML-reading applications. I can now shift choral scores from Sibelius into Myriad Software's Virtual Singer with very little correction. Make Sibelius sing with Dolet 4!

A very important benefit of all of your hard work on MusicXML as far as I am concerned is that I use it as a clear, structured and very ‘real-world practical’ specification of what music ‘is’ in order to design and implement my application’s internal data structures. It is easy using an XML reader library (I am using C# and .NET 3.5 under Windows Vista) to parse the elements that I can deal with now whilst skipping anything too fancy/detailed which I will deal with in some later version. Thanks go to Recordare for developing MusicXML. I have been able to make a lot of progress implementing FreeDots based on MusicXML in a very short time. This is mostly because MusicXML has a very clear distinction between the graphical representation of musical events, and their sound representation. If you are yourself blind, developing music notation conversion software is extremely complicated, since you can't actually look at the source material you are working with. MusicXML has helped me a lot in this regard, and I've learned a lot about the notational conventions sighted people use since I started to develop FreeDots.
